Air-borne dust on longwalls has always been an issue of concern in the mining industry, both in terms of production as well as for the safety and well-being of miners. Longwall personnel can be exposed to coal dust from multiple sources and when inhaled, this can result in long-term health risks. Inhaled coal dust is toxic and may also be carcinogenic in the event of repeated exposure.
