Internal Gear (Oil) Pumps

Internal gear pumps are positive displacement pumps that are used to transfer fluids such as gear oil, transmission fluid, steering fluid, hydraulic oil or compressor oil. As the gears inside the pump rotate, they create a void at the pump inlet, which creates suction and helps to draw the fluid in to the pump. As the gears turn, fluid is trapped in the mesh between the inner and outer gear teeth. The mesh between the gears closes at the outlet, and this pushes the fluid out of the pump. Gear pumps are robust and have been designed to operate in extreme conditions including applications with high discharge pressures and temperatures, as well as with more viscous fluids.
